The towing capacity of your vehicle is shown on a badge which is hidden in different places on the vehicle according to age and make.

If it is a factory fitted towbar there will be no difference in the figures. If it is an after-market towbar, go by the rating on the towbar. There are reasons why towbar companies put lower rated towbars on particular vehicles.

Ease and speed of set-up

Probably a forward folding hard floor as they are fast to set up and are fitted with winches for this reason.

The difference is in the construction and suspension. Off-road campers & caravans need to be far more robust to handle Australian outback roads.

At Southern Cross Campers we find it hard to think of things which are not covered. Unfortunately this does not apply to a lot of our competitors.

In most States there is a maximum of 100km/hr.

Look out for uneven tyre wear; if the camper leans to one side a shock absorber could be faulty; when you stop for fuel, food or for the night, feel the temperature of the wheels as excessive heat could mean a wheel bearing getting tired.

Yes. From “Go” to “Whoa” our trailers are built and assembled by the owners, Ben and Denis, themselves. They are built to a checklist and every nut, bolt and washer is checked and hand – tightened. (Rattle – guns are banned!)

It is an unfortunate fact of life that Australia’s manufacturing industry just cannot match the price of imported manufactures. Many of the components on our trailers are actually purchased here in Australia, but they always arrive in boxes marked “Made in China).

Many of our larger trailers like the 21ft Overlander, 19ft Sundowner and the 19ft Toy Hauler, have been designed to have a dual axle for more stability and to lower the weight on the towball.

All our trailers are fitted with heavy duty high-amp wiring, so it is more a matter of what appliances will not flatten your battery.

Unlike other competitiors that will take you for a ride - we have kept our overheads and margins low, specifically for that purpose.

After any long trip, check the wheel bearings and wheel nuts. Before starting a trip, check your lights.

When you are sitting in the vehicle, all hitched up and ready to go. Check these five things: 1. Trailer plug: Did you connect it? 2. Chains: Did you connect them? 3. Jockey wheel: Did you swing it up? 4. Handbrake: Did you disengage it? 5. Doors & Drawers: Did you close all doors and drawers? 

All of our trailers can be cared for with a fairly basic set of sockets and spanners.

The people you deal with at SCCT are the owners themselves so the buck stops there.
